DIY Day: Shower Cleaning Tips

No one likes stepping into the shower and seeing that crusty white mineral buildup that never seems to go away no matter how hard you scrub at it. Your shower should be clean after you spent an hour to clean it, right? Shower cleaning can be a pain if you don’t know what cleaners to use. Luckily, Deer Valley Plumbing knows just the solution to get your bathroom sparkling. Here are the top three issues that come up when cleaning a bathroom:

Shower Cleaning Tip #1. Mineral Deposits on Faucets and Shower Head

Soak a few paper towels in white vinegar and leave them overnight. In the morning, unwrap it and then get a bowl of warm water and dish soap and scrub at the surface with an old toothbrush. If you’re worried about the smell afterwards, consider soaking your vinegar in citrus peels before apply it to your appliances. This will make shower cleaning easier and your shower looking and smelling great.

2. Filmy Buildup on Shower Doors

White vinegar strikes again! If you spray white vinegar on your shower door, and then create a paste using water and equal amounts of salt and baking soda, you’ll have a concoction perfect for removing buildup. Put this mixture on a sponge and rub it all over the shower door. Rinse well with warm water and enjoy your clear shower door!

3. Tile and Grout Stains

It’s more than frustrating when you get mineral buildup or mildew stains on your tile and grout. This problem can be fixed by mixing ¾ cup of baking soda, ¼ cup of household strength (3%) hydrogen peroxide, 1 Tablespoon of liquid dish soap. Once you’ve mixed this, use an old toothbrush to scrub it into your tile and grout softly (rubbing too hard may damage the tile/grout). Leave for 15 minutes and then wash off with warm water.
